‘Mule Of Mine’ by Robbie Rapids is a whacky, inventive song with elements of pop, rock, and country. Accompanied by banjo, trumpet, guitar and drums, the playful song follows the story of a rebellious run away mule.
The Artist
The singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in 1978, took the “Rapids” for his name after the city of his birth, Grand Rapids. He began performing music at the age of 16, and is still going strong, experimenting boldly with sounds and genres. He has come a long long way from playing the guitar in his high school jazz band. Although known to record mostly solo, he performs with “Robbie & the Rapids”.

Song Lyrics
The premise of ‘Mule Of Mine’ is fairly simple and immensely fun. The farmer is walking along, searching for his mule who has run away. The neighbours tell him they saw him the previous day. Then the sheriff calls, having found the mule, who is lounging at the country club. The farmer then realises that he too needs to relax, and feels as though the mule has read his mind, and they dig a pool to relax together on the regular.

Song Atmosphere
Opening with trumpets and laid back guitar, the song immediately reels you in. Between the title, and the cover art, which shows the mule standing behind the farmer wearing sunnies, you pretty much instantly know what you’re in for. The song is humorous and lively, shifting from frustration to appreciation as the missing mule, in the farmers eyes, goes from being “fool mule of mine” to “cool mule of mine.” The song offers a lighthearted escape, temporarily transporting us to the winding sunny streets with the farmer, who hopes to spot his mule. Mosspit Studio crafted the production well. The various instruments are placed intentionally, and the track feels textured. This is Rapids’ first country-rock track, and he has blown it out of the park.
